Visitando amigos - Visiting friends

A fin de mayo fuimos a New Smyrna Beach, al norte, a visitar una familia que, a ellos los conocimos en Honolulu, en uno de los trabajo en que DHR es contratado por otra empresa; Shawn estaba con la otra empresa. Solo estuvo 10 días pero congeniaron tan bien con Denis que se formò una amistad! Can, la señora, vino 4 días de visita y aprovechamos a empezar a conocernos, los 4 juntos hicimos un par de caminatas; después él vino a casa a cenar.

Bue… despuès de tanta introducción… el jueves 28 Denis le manda un texto porque sabíamos estaría por Florida, Shawn lo llama ahi no màs y nos invita a pasar el fin de semana largo (del 29 al 1!) con ellos. No los vemos desde entonces pero ahi fuimos!

Super lindo! Nos encontramos charlando como si nos hubiéramos visto ayer! Conocimos a las dos nenas, Emma y Charlie y el sábado nos pasamos el día en un bote!

El paseo por los ríos Halifax y Matanzas, que es raro decir rio porque es el estrecho de agua entre el continente y esas tiras largas de tierra que, seràn islas?…, bien típicas de Florida.

El paseo en bote espectacular! Lo que no hay plata en Florida!… guau!

Mansiones con sus muelles y botes amarrados a los mismos; casas enormes y solo en una sección vimos unas casas como màs humildes… que no quiero ni pensar el valor del terreno!

Fuimos hasta St Augustin, un pueblito que reclama ser la ciudad màs viejo de US; de la época de las primeras colonizaciones españolas, hay un fuerte construido desde entonces. Muy pintoresco!

Volvimos tarde que algunos picotearon algo a la 1 de la mañana antes de irnos a dormir!

Que lindo finde pasamos!!

Out of a blue, Denis sent a message to Shawn (he already had sent him one when we arrive in Florida, but no response) on Thursday 28th (May) to see how they were. Next second!, Shawn is calling him and in less than 3 minutes he was saying we have to go and spend May long weekend with them! Oh, you want us to come tomorrow?!!

Well, that is what we did! Canceled bookings and other plans and drove up north to visit them!

We met Shawn while working in Oahu, he was replacing, for 2 weeks, the manager of the company that had contracted DHR to do this job. Can, his wife, only went for 4 days; we met and went on a couple of hikes, the 4 of us; then Shawn came for dinner to our place. He is very cool and so much like Denis, the 2 of them became friends like in a day!

Well… back to the weekend! On Saturday the plan was to go boating, this is Florida, everyone goes boating on weekends!! And we had a wonderful time! We met their 2 girls!, and some friends.

We sail up north the Halifax and Matanzas Rivers… it's funny to call them rivers as they are that bit of stretch of water between mainland and that long pieces of lands…, islands?, so classic to Florida’s coasts. They wanted to show us St Augustin, a small town that claims to be the oldest city in US, from the first Spanish colonies in the 17th century. Very pretty and busy town!

Man!… there is so much money in this state!… everywhere you looked along side the rivers, huge mansions with their pairs and boats!; big and not to big, pretty or a bit ugly houses along the rivers banks, boats everywhere! We only saw a little area with smallish, basic houses that I can imagine the price of that land… Wow!

We came back in the dark!, as late that some of the group had supper at one o’clock before going to bed!

What a wonderful weekend we had!
