Vino Sylvia a visitarnos! Visita corta pero rendidora!!

Sylvia, mi amiga y cuñada!!, hermana de Denis para los que no la conocen!

Paseamos por la cancha de golf, fuimos a Waikoloa a hacer compras y nos escapamos a la playa varias veces!

El viernes a la noche diluvio… 100 mlm en la cancha, 50 acà en Waikoloa con lo que Denis tuvo que ir a la cancha el sábado a la mañana a ayudar a acomodar los muchachos para arreglar los desastres que hizo… Por suerte, la parte de trabajo no fue tan mal, pero a la cancha en sì, tuvieron mucha corrida de rocas, piedras y piedritas, màs ramas, palos y palitos y todo lo que se cruzo en el camino del agua, que atravesò fairways, aparcaderos de autos, llevando mucha basura a la playa. Lo que se ve azul en la foto es agua todavía corriendo.

Un par de diàs concentrados en sacar todo eso y la cancha ya casi se ve còmo si no hubiera pasado el agua!!

My friend/sister in law Sylvia came to visit us for a few days! We had a great time!

Denis showed her the jobs at the golf course; we went food shopping to Waimea; and a few times to the beach!

We’ve organized a trip to Volcano National Park over the weekend but Friday night it rained a lot… 4 inches/100 mlm at the golf course and 2 inches/50 mlm at home. The golf course had quite a lot of damaged so Denis went in on Saturday morning to help to organized the cleaning. Our work was not affected to much but the course was hit hard in some areas. Denis organized some of our guys and machines to give them a hand. Rocks of all sizes; branches, sticks, lots of debris were washed up to fairways, car parks, the beach and so on. In the picture the blue is running water that doesn’t suppose to be there…!

A few days later the golf course is pretty much back to normal!

Apenas Denis terminò, nos fuimos hacia el sur para recorrer esa parte de la isla que Sylvia no conocía, con destino final el parque nacional Volcán. Donde se encuentra el volcàn màs activo pero lamentablemente, apagado… ji! Ji! No se ve nada de lava roja.

Hicimos dos o tres de las paradas turísticas habituales!, en la playa negra vimos las tortugas; el día ni las ganas acompañaban para un chapuzón así que seguimos viaje!

El día estaba bastante nublado que es mejor para viajar pero no para apreciar la belleza de èsta isla! Esta zona tiene màs verde, hay una o dos secciones de campos de lava que bajan hasta el mar que todavía no ha crecido vegetación pero, en general hay mucha vegetación; y màs hacia el suroeste màs selvático también; aquì llueve mucho màs que por dònde estamos nosotros.

El pueblo al lado del parque nacional, quizàs estoy repitiendo esto ya que hemos venido varias veces a este lugar; tambien se llama Volcàn: Volcano Village; el parque es Volcano National Park. Salvo por donde estàn los campos de lava màs nuevos y las calderas, en casi todo hay mucha vegetacion. En los campos nuevos ya hay plantitas queriendo crecer! Es de locos! Igual lleva añares que crezca pasto o que todo se convierta en “tierra” apta para el mismo.

As soon as Denis was back we headed south west to show Sylvia a bit of this gorgeous island!; final destination Volcano NP. On the way we stopped at a few tourist location; at the lava filed look out, were one can see the lava runs of different years all the way back to 700!

Then, at a couple of beaches, we saw turtles in Black Sand beach!; weather was not to kind so nether of us wanted to go for a swim.

All these areas have more vegetation, some areas even forest and tropical look, with some lava fields in between. Were we are leaving, Kona coast, is considered the dry area as it rains way less!

Recorremos los puntos màs turísticos antes de que entre el sol y se largue la lluvia fuerte! Hace un frio acà arriba! Siempre hay que llevar un suéter y campera por el fresquete! A la noche es un placer dormir!!

La caldera principal no tiene lava viva pero el vapor que sale habitualmente es màs cantidad, poderoso de lo que lo hemos visto en visitas previas, super interesante y lindo!

Paramos un ratito en la oficina de turismo del parque con tanta suerte que nos pusimos a charlar con uno de los guardaparques, nacido en Hawaii, rubio… ja! Ja! Re interesante charlar con èl!, desde cosas del volcán hasta de su vida creciendo en Maui!, sus estudios y su vida en Big Island! (Isla Grande) Contò que en su niñez, iban a una panadería en Maui que hacían los mejores Coconut anpans!, es la primera vez que escuchamos de esto!, son como una factura de coco rellenados con algo, de origen japonés. Yo ya conocía de nombre la panadería y siempre quise ir…, làstima porque la semana pasada, cerro para siempre… nos, me quedè con las ganas…

We go to the national park first, to see the most important spots before dark and, before the weather turns worth, it was drizzling already. It is quite fresh too!, we always bring a sweater and a jacket as, at this altitud, is colder.

We checked up the steam holes area where one, also, can see the main, active crater tho is sleeping now days… no active lava has been seen for a while.

Then we go to the look out were one gets a closer look of the crater, lots of steam but no red lava…, still very pretty!!

Before going to our accommodation, we stopped by the park’s office, we got talking to a very interesting park ranger!, local, grow up in Maui, move to Big Island long ago; we chat about life in the islands, his favorite pastry, coconut anpan, from a Maui local bakery! Very interesting chat!

The guy got me in wanting to test this pastry so I looked it up, actually, I had this bakery pin in my “do list” but never got around to visit… To bad  now…, they permanently closed down 2 weeks ago…

El domingo amaneció feúcho, llovió un poco durante la noche y el tiempo seguía cerrado lo que no nos permitió hacer mucho. Bah… hicimos bastante igual!

Caminamos el paseo corto del “tubo” de lava, por adentro!; fuimos en dirección costal hasta un paradero a ver la vista increíble de lava!!! Caminamos a ver la caldera principal “desde el otro lado”!! (Lado opuesto desde la oficina turística), solo se llega caminando a èsta secciòn. Es donde visitamos con Addy y los chicos cuando vimos toda esa lava viva!! Solo vimos humareda de vapor por todo orificio posible! Espectáculo de vista!!

We had a few shower overnight and the morning didn’t look promising at all… We went back to the park to walk through the lava tube; to drive towards the coast to check out a lookout in the middle of the lava fields!, and the gorgeous ocean all the way down there!; to walk a couple of miles to see the main crater from the other side, this side is only reachable by foot, because there is no visible lava, no one comes this way. The view is more impressive from this side, it is a huge hole!, with a few levels and lots of steam holes!

Regresando por otro camino, normalmente hacemos un circuito, vamos por el oeste sur y volvemos sur este! Paramos en el parque de los àrboles de lava, parada oficial en cada año que hemos ido al volcàn!, este està ya como a una hora lejos del parque hacia el sur este. El parque es resultado de una erupción (creo lo contè en la visita de Addy…) que la lava cubrió los árboles y se secò en form de tronco, algunas de estas figuras estàn ahuecadas y se ve a travez… Esta vez llovía màs fuerte que otras veces, había un tingladito cerca del estacionamiento, nos sentamos a hacer un picnic y para cuando terminamos, el tiempo se portò suficientemente bien como para dejarnos recorrer el parque sin mojarnos mucho! Una làstima no lo están cuidando màs, solo cortan un poco alrededor del sendero y de alguna de las figuras, el resto se lo està “comiendo” la vegetación… pronto habra poco de estos àrboles de lava a la vista… Una làstima…

Siguiendo la vuelta, paramos donde la lava de la erupción de 2018 cruzo por arriba del camino para mostrarle a Sylvia; nosotros manejamos por ese camino una vez… Denis le hizo todo los cuentos del pueblo desaparecido bajo la lava, el calor que salía entre las grietas màs de 6 meses màs tarde de la erupción cuando nosotros visitamos en el 19; lo cerca que estuvo la lava de llevarse por delante la ùnica usina de luz de Big Island, etc!, etc!

On our way back home we stopped by to more touristy places, now is raining… at the lava tree mold park we run to a cover picnic table to have our lunch/picnic, while waiting for the rain to ease so we can walk through the park. It is a shame the state is not quite looking after the park as they did before; vegetation is taking over of most of the molds, they keep the walking path and a couple of the mold clear but, everything else is slowly despairing…

The “molds” is an area where a volcano eruption covered some trees enough for the lava to keep the shape of their trunks.

Next stop was at the lava crossing over the road, from the 2018 eruption. Denis explains to Sylvia all about it: this road used to take you all the way down to the ocean, half of a village down there, despaired; the so close called to the power station where the lava stopped or went around it; etc.

Querìamos parar en Hilo, en el centro, la playa y marina pero llovía asi que solo pasamos manejando y apuntando acà y allà…, muy gris para ver mucho. La idea era parar en una catarata famosa pero con la lluvia ninguno tenia ganas, saliendo, ya casi a las afueras, de reojo, veo un arroyo con agua torrencial, roja corriendo como loca! Y les digo: “para Denis, tenemos que ir a ver la catarata! Va a estar como loca!!” Todos contentos y entusiasmados ahi no màs le pegamos la vuelta! La catarata un espectáculo!!!, ver esa masa de agua roja, bajando de allà lejos, en cascadas, siguiendo su rumbo, fui divino!! Lo que nos podríamos haber perdido…! Nunca la vimos asì, apenas si un chorro de aguas cristalinas bajando tranquilamente por el centro de ese paredón que la hace catarata pero, hoy!, (ese domingo) un espectáculo de aquellos! Belleza total! El sonido!

Con tanta suerte que el sendero hacia arriba y costado izquierdo estaba abierto con lo que nos fascilitò ver la misma desde màs cerca! Mucha agua por todos lados, en el sendero, en nuestra ropa porque llovía!! También pudimos mostrarle a Sylvia el parquesito de los àrboles banya con mil quinientas ramificaciones! Una belleza!

Y asì nos fuimos a casa, felices de haber parado!!

We normally do this trip on a circuit way!, we go to Volcano from the west, south west and return on the south east side driving Hilo.

Today the weather is not cooperating, it’s raining heavy, there is water everywhere. So we drive through the center of Hilo telling Sylvia over there is this or that but we can really see much… We decided not to stop at the waterfall because we were going to get wet… Thou!…, as we leaving town, I saw a creek where the water was running red and so fast that I said: “Stop! We have to go to the waterfall, is going to be crazy, full of water”!!  U-turn, exited like little kids on anticipation for what we are going to see, all happy we jumped of the car forgetting all about the rain and cold!!

The waterfall was running like crazy! This gorgeous red mass of water falling from everywhere!! The noise was amazing! Such spectacle!!

Then, we saw the path to the banya trees section, to the left of the waterfall, open!; we followed it!, we got so close to the water and the noise!! Everything is wet but it was worth it!! Gorgeous views!!

MAUI

Fuimos a Maui!! Nos invitaron al cumpleaños de Danny y lo pasamos bàrbaro!

Este año se vino Joy a Maui en vez de ir Danny para California; nosotros re contentos porque nos dio una excusa obligatoria para irnos de paseo!! Ja! Ja! Yo ya extrañaba viajar! Ji!

Aprovechando el viaje hice alfajorsitos y merengues para llevarle a los Coscarelli!

El festejo al mejor estilo argentino! Empanadas de carnes, asado, ensaladas y un toque hawaiano!, langostinos y ananá ahumado!!

Hay una pareja de argentinos que tienen un carrito que venden empanadas, choripán, lomitos en Kihei; también, hacen eventos; Danny los contratò y todo estuvo riquísimo!!

El chango de asador lo compraron/exportaron de Argentina!

El carrito de las bebidas, son otros argentinos, èl es fotógrafo de bodas, quieren introducir servir tragos también, nosotros lo estrenamos!! Oh, Hanna, la señora, es nacida en USA, habla muy bien castellano!

Eramos màs argentinos que otra cosa!!, creo serian unas 5 personas de USA.

Lo pasamos re bàrbaro!

We went to Maui for Danny’s, Denis’ boss, birthday; we had a ball!!

This year Joy, his wife, Denis’ sister!!, decided to come to Hawaii instead of Danny going to California. Perfect for us because we were due to visit our Maui’s friends! Also!!!, I was eager to travel!! Ha! Ha! And our friends, Coscarelli were due for a set of my home made alfajores!!

Any excuse to travel to Maui!!

We celebrated at a best Argentinian style!, empanadas, asado (meat) and salads with a tauch of Hawaiian food!: shrimps and smoked pineapple!! Everything very delicious!!

We were more Argentinians than proper locals!, ha! Ha! Some of us had moved many moons ago, others just a few years back; over all I think there were only 5 USA people.

Danny contracted an Argentinian couple that have a food truck in Kihei to do the food. They do the food truck every weekend and they do events with this type of setting.

The drinks cart belongs to another couple, he is from Argentina married to a lady from Georgia USA, he is a wedding photographer, she a nurse!
